Germany's capital Berlin is one of the most popular German cities and records almost 30 million overnight stays a year. This is hardly surprising, because Berlin is considered lively, multicultural and hip. Here you can find out how to find the cheapest accommodation options in the capital, what to consider and which secret tips lead you to new places.

Where to stay in Berlin

Our capital offers numerous accommodation options. From youth hostels and hostels, guesthouses and inns to luxury and brand hotels. This means that not only is there something for every budget, but also for adventurous travelers. The diversity of cultures and the many events that take place in Berlin have led to the development of exceptional experience hotels, such as the OSTEL. Here you are warmly welcomed with the old charm of the GDR. If you don't want anything out of the ordinary and prefer to live at a reasonable price, you should look out for hostels, guesthouses and inns. These facilities are often cheaper because they offer less comfort than large star hotels, but this does not reduce well-being in the least. In contrast to large hotels, guesthouses and inns offer a more familiar atmosphere and invite friendly cooperation. The lower prices for guesthouses and inns can be offered thanks to lower staff costs. As a result of the family atmosphere, guests benefit from the insider knowledge and excellent local knowledge of pension operators. For example, you can find out first-hand which sights are worth a trip and which means of transport lead to the excursion destinations.

What to consider:

When booking accommodation, attention is no longer only paid to whether breakfast and dinner are offered, but also whether there is WiFi in the rooms. We connect a part of our home to WLAN and often enough it is said that home is where the WLAN automatically connects. And who wouldn't want to feel a bit at home in a foreign city? With (free) WiFi, guesthouses, hotels or hostels can significantly increase comfort for their guests. That is why there are more and more accommodations that offer WiFi in the rooms, although it is not always free. Many portals, including the Berlin Hotel Directory, offer the opportunity to filter the enormous range of offers according to specific criteria. If you are looking for accommodation with WiFi, you should find out before booking whether it is a free or paid service. Because of around 600 accommodations, 400 offer WiFi, but only 100 units are equipped with free WiFi. And this is despite the fact that the most popular free service in a hotel is free WiFi (see Statista survey). This is a particularly important factor for business travelers in particular, as they depend on sending and receiving emails or finding out various information via the Internet during their trip. That is why there is an enormous amount of catching up to do in the area of free guest WiFi, especially for hotels. If you value being fully supplied in your home and receiving free WiFi, you should clarify whether this service is offered before you book.
